What is Python

Python is the most popular general-purpose, dynamic programming language which can be used for data munging, data engineering, data wrangling, website scraping, web app building, and more. It is gaining popularity among data scientists for statistical computing.

Python is used by programmers, engineers and data scientists to

  • Perform data manipulation
  • Analyse data using powerful libraries
  • Visualize data with rich graphic
  • Develop web applications

Python is free and open source software.

Free and open-source software (FOSS) is computer software that can be classified as both free software and open source software which means anyone is freely licensed to use, copy, study, and change the software in any way, and the source code is openly shared so that people are encouraged to voluntarily improve the design of the software.

Python is one such Free and open-source software.

Algorithms in Python are designed to be easy to read and write. It requires the programmer to develop lesser codes as compared to other languages.

Brief History of Python

Python was designed by Guido Van Rossum. It was conceived in the late 1980s. It was born out of a terminated project of the Dutch CWI research institute, that van Rossum worked for and derived its name from the television series Monty Python's Flying Circus
